Halberd bearer
A halberd bearer , also halberdier or halberdist , is a person who is armed with a halberd . In the military , halberd-bearers were used from the late Middle Ages to the early modern period and belonged to the heavy infantry . Today, halberd-bearers such as those of the Swiss Guard are only used for representative purposes.
