Fernando Iório Rodrigues

Fernando Iório Rodrigues (born June 23, 1929 in Maceió , Alagoas , Brazil , † March 20, 2010 ibid) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Palmeira dos Índios .

Life

Fernando Iório Rodrigues entered the Nossa Senhora da Assunção seminary in Maceió and studied theology and philosophy. He was ordained a priest on November 30, 1953 . After pastoral work, he completed a master's degree in communication studies and English at the Universidade Federal de Alagoas (UFAL) and further postgraduate degrees in literary theory , linguistics , literary studies , Brazilian and Portuguese linguistics , language didactics and music at the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF). He was professor of Portuguese linguistics at UFAL and also taught at UFF in Rio de Janeiro. He was involved in the Academia Alagoana de Letras (AAL), of which he was president since 2008. He also worked as a journalist and published numerous articles and 13 books.

In 1985 John Paul II appointed him third bishop of the diocese of Palmeira dos Indios. Otàvio Barbosa Aguiar , former bishop of Palmeira dos Índios, donated him episcopal ordination on May 29, 1985 ; Co - consecrators were the German-born Franciscan Constantino José Lüers OFM , Bishop of Penedo , and his predecessor Epaminondas José de Araújo .

2006 his resignation due to reasons of age by Benedict XVI. granted. He died of complications from heart problems.
