The Hellersche dementia (also called infantile dementia , dementia infantilis , disintegrative psychosis Heller's syndrome or symbiotic psychosis called) is a pervasive developmental disorder .

The childhood disintegrative disorder carries the ICD-10 encoding, F84.3 , where it is among the group of other disintegrative disorders of childhood classified. In the DSM classification, it has its own code 299.10.

Symptoms and ailments

After a phase of normal development , the child loses skills in various areas of development within a few months. In addition, there is a general loss of interest in the environment, stereotypes and motoric mannerisms. The social behavior is similar to that of an autistic person . According to the DSM classification, the phase of normal development should include at least the first two years of life, and developmental losses should occur before the age of ten.

In some cases, the disorder can be attributed to concomitant encephalopathy .

Consequences and complications

The upbringing, schooling and educational ability of the child are severely restricted. There are difficulties in social behavior and problems with contact with the environment. The stereotypes and motor mannerisms may meet with rejection. The possibilities of an independent life are severely limited.
