Helmut Behrendt (politician)

Helmut Reinhold Behrendt (born April 11, 1948 in Lübs ) is a German local politician ( FDP ). From 1990 to 2012 he was mayor of the city of Zerbst / Anhalt .

Life

Behrendt completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer in 1966 and later worked as a training instructor and then as an engineering pedagogue for the construction industry. In the GDR he had been a member of the LDPD since April 1970 and joined the FDP after reunification. From May 30, 1990 to June 30, 2012 he was mayor of the district town of Zerbst. In 1994, 2001 and 2008 he was confirmed in office for seven years. In 2008 he received over 67 percent of the vote against five other applicants in the first round.
