Helmut Hartmann (entrepreneur)

Helmut Hartmann (born October 25, 1929 in Augsburg ) is a German entrepreneur and former member of the Bavarian Senate .

life and work

Hartmann attended a grammar school in Augsburg up to the 6th grade and then had to leave it because his mother was considered Jewish due to her descent. After the end of the war, Hartmann went to relatives in Switzerland, where he graduated from high school in 1948.

He then began working in his father's paper wholesaler and later took over its management together with his brother Günther. He was president of the regional association of Bavarian wholesale and foreign trade. Hartmann was elected to the Bavarian Senate as a wholesale representative in 1990, where he was a member until 1995.

In 1993 he sold the paper wholesale business and from then on devoted himself to social work. He particularly advocated tolerance and understanding between different cultures and religions and founded a. a. the forum for intercultural living and learning ( FILL for short ). Because of his commitment, Hartmann was awarded the Augsburg Peace Prize in 2003 .
