Hemipelvectomy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The hemipelvectomy is the most dramatic form of a disarticulation in the lower extremities .

The entire lower extremity, including a complete half of the pelvis down to the sacrum (Latin: Os sacrum ), with which it is connected in the joint , is removed from one side. This usually only occurs with malignant tumor diseases or similarly serious diseases. Since the actual production of the blood cells takes place in this area, such a surgical intervention is serious in addition to the static complications . A prosthetic aftercare is very problematic here.
