Hemmel (unit)
Hemmel was a square measure in Syria and very indefinite in size.
The area was determined by a certain number of possible mulberry trees to be planted . In sales, the brokers set the size. With 18 steps in length and width, the surface comes close to reality. Hemmel originally meant the amount of mulberry leaves that a donkey could carry. Only later did the term change to measure. Hemmel was also seen as a sign of possession.
