Robert Juillard (born August 24, 1906 as Louis Alphonse Robert Juillard in Joinville (Haute-Marne) , † May 14, 1982 in Paris ) was a French cameraman .

Live and act

Juillard received photographic training in a photo laboratory . He joined the film industry in the late 1920s and worked as an assistant to Georges Périnal , Jules Kruger , Christian Matras and Léonce-Henri Burel until the mid-1930s . Starting with Julien Duvivier's cinematic biography of Jesus Christ The Cross of Golgotha (1935), he worked as a simple cameraman. The Second World War interrupted Juillard's professional activities. Robert Juillard resumed his work as a cameraman at Matras' side in 1945, and became chief cameraman the following year.

Juillard's brief executive career has spawned a number of high quality entertainment films. In the following decade and a half he worked with leading directors such as Roberto Rossellini (in the ruined post-war Berlin), René Clement , Henri-Georges Clouzot , René Clair , Gene Kelly and the veteran Abel Gance . The top films he (co) photographed include Germany in the Year Zero , Diary of a Country Pastor , Forbidden Games , Gervaise and Austerlitz - the shine of an imperial crown . In other top productions such as Lohn der Angst , Die Schönen der Nacht , Die Teuflischen and Babette goes to war , Juillard was subordinate to his experienced colleague Armand Thirard .

In 1962 Juillard ended his cinema career as a cameraman. Six years later he appeared in front of the camera as an actor in René Allio's production of Pierre and Paul . It was his last cinematic activity.
