action

FBI agent Lemmy Caution is sent to Paris by his superior . Agent Charlie Ribban gets stuck in the case of unmasking the spy Varley. Lemmy is arrested under a pretext and arrives at the French secret service through confidante André Demur. The boss, General Rupert, greets Lemmy with suspicion, especially when he hears about the agent Ribban, of whose existence he was previously unaware.

Lemmy starts his investigation in an art gallery where Charlie works as a camouflage. He makes an appointment with his colleague for later. He arranged to meet the owner Isabella for dinner beforehand. An old friend, the private detective Dombie, is already waiting in his hotel and offers Lemmy his support. Lemmy asks him to wait for him during dinner with Isabella, and then to visit Charlie together afterwards. Isabella fills Lemmy, who is drunk and drives Dombie to Charlie's apartment. There they find the agent murdered in front of a bookshelf. Lemmy suspects an important piece of information in the books.

General Rupert is furious and blames Lemmy for the death. Lemmy suspects the secretary, Danielle, that she was the only one able to overhear the conversation. Demur contradicts the FBI agent because Danielle was clearly working on the typewriter during all the interviews. When Lemmy and the agent Philippe Mayne search their apartment, they find a tape recorder with typewriter noises. This confirms Lemmy's suspicions. When interviewing the nightclub owner Girotti, Danielles' friend, Tommy and Lemmy found out about a villa, where Danielles actually lived. The two decide to investigate this place as well. But they find Danielle stabbed to death. Lemmy confronts Girotti with the death of his girlfriend, who gets an alibi from his accountant.

In the meantime, Dombie finds a reference to a color code in Ribban's books. Lemmy confronts Isabella with the knowledge of the secret code in the pictures and suggests that Varley be handed over in exchange for her freedom. In order to finally expose Varley and catch him in the act, he involves the general's niece. This is disguised as a spy to offer Varley some secret information. Lemmy lets himself be captured by Girotti in order to give him the information about a spy who has to sell the formula for a new kind of rocket fuel. While Girotti is meeting the supposed spy, Lemmy manages to escape. When he reached the previously agreed meeting point, Demur and Mayne had already shot Girotti. They admit to the alleged spy that they both appear as Varley. The arrived Lemmy can take the two crooks by surprise.
