Lemmy Caution

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Like Jerry Cotton, Lemmy Caution is an FBI agent invented by a European who was first successful in a series of novels and later in a number of movies.

It was invented by the Briton Peter Cheyney . When Cheyney published the first novel, This man is dangerous, about Lemmy Caution in 1936 , he was still a police officer until the subsequent success of the novel enabled him to make a living from writing in the future.

background

After the Second World War , many French became interested in the culture of the American allies. Against this background, the French film industry discovered Peter Cheyney's popular novels as the starting material for the film series by the agent Lemmy Caution.

The director Bernard Borderie was looking for someone who should have the rough appearance of a gangster for the film adaptation and found his ideal cast in the American singer Eddie Constantine, who was then living in Paris . Constantin had only appeared in a supporting role until then. Despite his lack of acting experience, he was able to convince the audience. Lemmy Caution has been portrayed as a cheeky, provocative and resourceful macho who was never averse to whiskey, cigarettes and women. He always enjoyed a fist fight and was always successful even against an overwhelming number of opponents. Constantine played Caution so convincingly that, thanks to the constant role behavior, later films with him were also marketed under the agent name.

In contrast to the film adaptations of Cheyney's novel, Caution was portrayed by Jean-Luc Godard in Lemmy Caution against Alpha 60 as a tired, aged and depressed man. Like Humphrey Bogart , Lemmy moved into his trench coat, lonely and lost in the future world. Three years earlier, Sean Connery made his debut as James Bond in James Bond - 007 Chasing Dr. No pointing the way to the big screen for a new generation of secret agents.

Lemmy Caution appeared in Udo Lindenberg's film Panische Zeiten in 1980 and in two episodes of the Austrian series Kottan determined in 1983 .

In 1989 there was Le retour de Lemmy Caution, a French TV film with Constantin as the leading actor.

Caution's last guest appearance was in 1991 in Germany Neu (n) Null . Here Godard again lets the agent reactivate at the time of German reunification .
