In biology, an area around a cell that prevents the formation of a similar cell is called an inhibition field or blocking field. Above all, the regular sequence and position of leaves on the stem axis of a plant are explained with this theory. In detail, it is assumed that the inhibitory field in the vicinity of a cell is formed either by an inhibiting substance or by the absence of a necessary substance.
