Henry Ingalls (* 1819 in Wiscasset , Maine ; † 1896 there ) was an American lawyer and railroad entrepreneur.

Life

The port of Wiscasset, Ingalls' hometown, was in dire need of good transport links to keep it competitive. He therefore founded the Kennebec and Wiscasset Railroad in 1854 to connect Wiscasset to the railroad network. After several renaming of the railway company, of which Ingalls was president until 1893, it was not until 1895, a year before Ingalls' death, that traffic on the rather insignificant route began.

It was also Ingalls President of the Bar Association of the Supreme Court in Lincoln County and the First National Bank of Wiscasset . He was one of the board-appointed directors of the Maine General Hospital . He was also an assistant director of the World's Columbian Commission , a commission to host a world exposition to mark the 400th anniversary of the landing of Columbus in America.
