Heptad pattern

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As Heptadenmuster or heptad repeat (English: heptad repeat ) refers to a sequence motif , in which hydrophobic amino acid residues at the 1st and 4th position are a seven-amino acid segment. The motif can be described as follows:

 a b c d e f g H: hydrophober Aminosäurerest
 H P P H C P C P: polarer Aminosäurerest
C: elektrisch geladener Aminosäurerest (engl. charged residue)

The individual amino acid residues are noted with the minuscules from a to g . If you continue the sequence, write from a 'to g ', a '' to g '' etc.

This motif is a distinctive structure of coiled coils , especially the bZIP domain . The coiled coil structure is stabilized by the hydrophobic interaction of these amino acids.
