Alex Sadkowsky

Alex Sadkowsky (* 1934 in Zurich ) is a Swiss multimedia artist, painter, draftsman, graphic artist, photographer, performer and author.

Life

Sadkowsky was born in Zurich in 1934 into a family of artists. His ancestors were artists and traders. He spent his childhood and youth in Zurich and Freienstein (Canton of Zurich). Until the age of 24 he was u. a. works as a jazz musician, traveling salesman, tree painter, Spanish teacher, graphologist, tap dancer and prize boxer. From 1946 he created his first poems and many drawings; In 1952 he took brief drawing lessons from Walter Jonas and Charles Kissling. 1957 marriage, four children. Has worked as a freelance artist since 1958. Participation in the exhibition Young Zurich Artists in the Helmhaus Zurich. At times he shared a studio with Friedrich Kuhn and, in collaboration with Kuhn, gave the bibliophile portfolio with etchings, published in 1965, Sadlowski greets Kuhn / Kuhn greets Sadlowski . In 1969 Sadkowsky was granted Swiss citizenship.

Travel is an important part of Sadkowsky's life: several months in India. Studied Brahmin Buddhism in Darbhanga and Darjeeling. Trip to Russia with Max Frisch . The following year travels to Germany, Austria and Italy. Stay in Ireland in 1967: First texts for the novel The Chinese Wasp: The story of a love originate in Dublin. In 1970 he had a studio from the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and an exhibition in the Gallery Krikhaar. 1972 study visit to Finland, exhibitions in Turku, Tampere and Helsinki. A trip to the Balkans and a stay in Istanbul followed in 1973, domicile and work year in New York 1975. Trip to California and Mexico. 1980 second stay in Mexico. From 1985–1993 he traveled and stayed in Italy, Greece, Holland, Spain, Yugoslavia, Portugal, Malta, Ireland, France and the USA with individual readings. Sadkowsky has been spending the winters in northern Thailand since 1994. 2003 trips to Italy, Portugal, Malta and Greece. 2015 stay in Ireland, 2017 in Israel.

Films were made with Sadkowsky again and again: 2001–2003 shooting for the video production I love myself in Switzerland and Thailand. A large literary oeuvre was created parallel to the pictorial work: 1996–2006 Sadkowsky received ten sponsorship and recognition prizes, in 2010 he was invited to the Solothurn Literature Days, and in 2012 he received another sponsorship award for literature.
