The Davies Escarpment is an approximately 16 km long and east-facing stepped terrain without rocky outcrops in the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It is located south of the Bermel Escarpment in the southern part of the Thiel Mountains .
This formation was named at the suggestion of the US cartographers Peter Frank Bermel and Arthur B. Ford , who jointly led an exploration expedition of the United States Geological Survey to the Thiel Mountains from 1960 to 1961 . It is named after the geologist William Edward Davies (1917–1990), who was involved from 1954 to 1955 on the research trip of the icebreaker USS Atka in search of locations for research stations as part of the International Geophysical Year (1957–1958).
