Waterloo Barracks, formerly the location of the Heralds' Museum

The Heralds' Museum was a museum in the Waterloo Barracks of the Tower of London . The museum, which existed between 1980 and 1990, was dedicated to the history of heraldry in the United Kingdom. The exhibits came from the collection of the College of Arms .

The efforts to set up a first British museum of coats of arms go back largely to Rodney Dennis , the then Somerset Herald of the United Kingdom. Originally the museum was supposed to open in an annex to the College of Arms. For lack of funds, the college dropped this plan and moved to the Tower instead. The first director was Anthony Wagner , his successor John Brooke-Little . Dennys himself held the post of Deputy Director, who did most of the day-to-day work for the museum.

Since the tower renovation in 1996, the entire ground floor of the Waterloo Barracks has been occupied by the Jewel House . The search for a successor was unsuccessful. After the move out of the Tower and Denny's death soon after, the museum and organization fell apart.
