Herbert Schmalz

Herbert Gustave Schmalz , from 1918 Herbert Carmichael (born June 1, 1856 in Ryton ; † November 24, 1935 in London ) was a British painter who is attributed to the Pre-Raphaelites .

He was the son of the German consul in Newcastle, Gustave Schmalz, and his British wife Margaret Carmichael, the eldest daughter of the painter John Wilson Carmichael . After the German defeat in 1918, he took his mother's surname. He also signed some of his works with Angelico or Angelo .
