from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hereford Railway is a former railway company in Quebec ( Canada ). It was founded on June 23, 1887 and built a standard-gauge railway line from Lime Ridge to the US border at Beecher Falls . The 85.1 kilometer line was opened on May 1, 1890. Exactly one year later, the Upper Coos Railroad opened the connecting line from Beecher Falls to Quebec Junction.

The Maine Central Railroad leased the Hereford Railway on May 18, 1890 for 999 years, but sold the line in February 1928 to the Canadian Pacific Railway , which closed the line in 1930 except for the Cookshire Junction - Melvina (36.2 km) section. The Hereford Railway was then dissolved.
