Herjólfr Bárðarson
Herjólfr Bárðarson (Herjulf Bårdsson) was one of the land collectors in Greenland in the Viking Age (800-1050 AD).
He first lived in Iceland on Drepstokki. He was the son of Bárðr Herjólfsson and married to Þorgerðr. His son Bjarni Herjúlfsson was the first European to sight the American continent in 986 after going off course.
Herjólfr was one of Erik the Red's followers who left Iceland on 25 Viking ships in 985 to colonize Greenland. Of these 25 ships, however, only 14 made it to Greenland , including that of Herjólfr.
According to the Icelandic land register , his family settled at Herjólfsfjörðr on the Herjólfsnes peninsula south of Brattahlíð , today's Ikigaat (south of Nanortalik ).
