Hermann Dürtzant

Hermann Dürtzant (* 14th century ; † around 1416 in Aachen ) was a lay judge and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

The son of the Aachen aldermen of the same name (approx. 1335 - approx. 1379) and Heilika von Hochkirchen (approx. 1345 - approx. 1423) followed his father into the college of aldermen and appeared as such for the first time in 1398. In 1401 he was one of the lay judges who forbade the new King Ruprecht to be officially coronated in Aachen, because the deposition of his predecessor Wenzel von Luxemburg was not accepted. Ruprecht's coronation took place in Cologne and without the handover of the imperial insignia . King Ruprecht then occupied Aachen with several years of outlawry , which in particular the votierenden against Rupert coronation councilors and aldermen, including Hermann Dürtzant, were occupied by temporary removal from office. After long negotiations at the beginning of 1407, after long negotiations, the imperial ban was lifted and Aachen committed itself to paying a sum of 8,000 guilders in two installments and earmarked for the repetition of the coronation celebrations, the coronation could be repeated in Aachen in the traditional way. At the same time, Dürtzant was given the right to work as a lay judge again and was elected mayor of the Free Imperial City of Aachen in the same year . On August 14, 1407, Dürtzant and the lay judge Johann van den Berge managed to renegotiate and extend the agreed installment dates. From 1413 Dürtzant took over the office of the sendschöffen .

Hermann Dürtzant was a member of the Bockzunft, a society of patricians in which scholars, doctors, lawyers, merchants and civil servants were organized. He was married to Sybille von Dobach, any children are not known. The Hereditary Marshal of Limburg, Carsilis von Eupen, was a brother-in-law of Hermann Dürtzant.
