Hermann Sürken

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hermann Sürken shipyard existed in Papenburg from 1946 to 1992 .

history

The company was founded in 1946 by Hermann Sürken. The company built a wide variety of sea and inland vessels. In addition, there was a focus on the development and construction of oil exploration ships and oil rig supplies. In 1972 the company had 554 employees. From 1983 the shipyard also started building coasters . The shipyard's river and seagoing vessels in particular had a good reputation.

When the dredger manufacturer Weserhütte filed for bankruptcy in 1986 and was broken up the following year, the Hermann Sürken shipyard took over the construction of dredges and developed the Weserhütte's hydrostatic dredgers further. In the early 1990s, the Sürkenwerft got into financial difficulties and finally filed for bankruptcy in June 1992. Most recently it employed 420 people. The excavator construction was continued until 1994.
