Hermann Schäfer (* 1927 in Rottweil ; † 2009 ) was a German composer, music teacher and scholar.

Life

Hermann Schäfer was born in Rottweil in 1927. After being a prisoner of war in 1945, Schäfer began studying music in Trossingen , which he continued in Heidelberg from 1947. He taught for several years at the Kurfürst-Friedrich-Gymnasium and was appointed professor for music education at the Pedagogical University of Heidelberg in 1966 and as professor for music theory, composition and analysis at the Mannheim State University for Music and Performing Arts , where he was vice-rector from 1986 to 1992 was. He composed, among other things, two operas, several symphonies, chamber music for various ensembles, songs, choral music and pieces for youth orchestras. He was awarded the Stuttgart Composition Prize and the Pfalz / Dannstadt Composition Prize.
