Hero Fracture Zone

The Hero Fracture Zone (English for Hero Fracture Zone is) an undersea transform fault in the Southern Ocean . It runs in the middle of the Drake Strait between the southern tip of South America and the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands .
The designation was made in the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans and has been confirmed by the US Advisory Committee for Undersea Features (ACUF) since June 1987 . It is named after the Sloop Hero , with which Nathaniel Palmer visited the South Shetland Islands between 1820 and 1821.
