Gamehl mansion
The manor house Gamehl is a building in the district of the same name in the municipality of Benz in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg .
The manor house Gamehl had been owned by the von Stralendorff family since 1387 . The old mansion was demolished at the beginning of the 19th century. Only an inscription plate and a coat of arms from the 18th century have been preserved and can be seen on the back of the current mansion. Franz von Stralendorff (1805-1883) had the current representative mansion built in 1860.
This neo-Gothic building was designed by the Wismar architect Heinrich Thormann . Franz von Stralendorff was Duke of Mecklenburg Chamberlain , Vice Marshal country and district administrator on Gamehl. From two marriages he left more than 20 children, of whom only a few reached adulthood. The castle he built was the center of a manorial estate with numerous surviving outbuildings. The Herrenhau Gamehl remained the seat of the family until 1945. The last landlord was Joachim von Stralendorff, he was expropriated with the land reform . After that it was used as shelter for refugees, as consumption and as a kindergarten. In 2000 Dagmar von Stralendorff bought the mansion again. The building was restored over several years of extensive work and opened as a hotel in 2008.
The building is characterized by a striking octagonal tower on the north-west corner. The building was decorated with brick ornaments and arched windows clad in building blocks.
There is a smaller landscaped garden at the house.
