The Hertha Firnberg Schools for Business and Tourism are an amalgamation of a federal college for business professions (HLW) , a college for tourism (HLT) and a hotel management school (HOFA) in the 22nd district of Vienna .
Origin of name
The schools were named after Hertha Firnberg , Austria's first female social democratic minister.
The plural "schools" is used deliberately, as it is an amalgamation of three different school types (HLW, HLT & HOFA) in one school building.
Architecture and buildings
The building, designed by the German architecture firm AMP, was built by 2010 as part of the extension of the adjoining Bernoulligymnasium. It has 2 upper floors as well as an expanded basement, in which, in addition to cloakrooms for the students, there are also entrances to the in-house gym, as well as to the gym and sports field shared with the Bernoulligymnasium.
By planning large glass facades and wide windows, a very bright atmosphere could be achieved in the building, which, however, leads to high temperatures in the building in summer. The lack of air conditioning in the school building is partially compensated for by the use of automatic roller shutters .
The school has several kitchens and dining rooms where the students work as part of the class.

- a gender room (conference room of the gender steering group)
During breaks, the pupils can visit the break buffet provided by the tourism classes in the foyer or the in-house café run by the pupils.
Educational work, equipment and offers
The name "Hertha Firnberg Schools" is derived from the three different school types and their training focuses, which are combined in one building.

Outside of the lessons, the students can get involved in the gender team, at the Relais de la Memoire, in a school's own debating club, in career coaching, or in the student council.
The school attaches great importance to gender mainstreaming and was awarded the Austrian School Prize in 2015 in the gender equality category. Every year an event called "Gendermania" (based on Starmania ) takes place in the house, where each class can present a project on the subject of gender mainstreaming in a show atmosphere.
