Herwig Gückelhorn

Herwig Gückelhorn (born June 4, 1930 in Olomouc ) is a German economist, journalist and publicist. Gückelhorn was editor-in-chief of Rheinischer Merkur from 1973 to 1979 as well as a member of the board of directors of the Gerling Group.

Life

Herwig Gückel Horn studied economics in Munich and has been at the state economic faculty with the work in 1955 "state and development trends of Veruntreuungsversicherung" at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich doctorate . He started his professional career at Munich Reinsurance Company and Hermes Kreditversicherungs-AG, but switched to business journalism after a year. He became editor and from 1960 head of the business editorial department at Deutsche Zeitung , later at Rheinischer Merkur , which he was deputy editor-in-chief from 1969 and sole editor-in-chief from 1973 to the end of 1979. During this time he published numerous publications in all media, including three books.

Hans Gerling brought him to the Gerling Group in 1980 as a member of the management board , naturally initially for the press, information and advertising departments. This was soon joined by product management, legal protection insurance and areas of the systematically expanded consulting group. Herwig Gückelhorn later became a board member of the Gerling Group Vertriebs-AG and the Gerling Group Legal Protection Insurance AG.

The native Sudeten German held a number of other functions both within and outside the Gerling Group. Among other things, he is chairman of the committee for press and public relations of the Confederation of German Employers 'Associations , member of the public committee of the employers' association of insurance companies and also of the Rotary Club .
