Herz-Jesu-Kirche (Essen-Altenessen-Süd)
The Church of the Heart of Jesus ( ) is a Roman Catholic church building in the Altenessen-Süd district of Essen . It is a branch church of the parish of St. Hedwig and belongs to the parish of St. Johann Baptist .
history
The Sacred Heart Church was built in 1894 and destroyed in World War II. In 1958 it was rebuilt by the architects Emil Steffann and Karl-Otto Lüfkens using remains of the old surrounding wall and the tower stump .
The weekday chapel is decorated with leaded glass windows by the glass painter Franz Pauli depicting various scenes from the Old and New Testament .
Bells
The church originally had five bells, four of which were destroyed in World War II. In 1963 she received a new ring of four bells.
Bells 1–4 form the ideal quartet , bells 1–3 the Te Deum motif and bells 2–4 the Gloria motif .
