The Duke of York Island ( English Duke of York Iceland ) is a mountainous, ice-free, 4 km long and up to 555 m high island before the Pennell Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It is located on the southern part of Robertson Bay .
It was first mapped during the British Southern Cross Expedition (1898-1900) under the direction of the Norwegian polar explorer Carsten Egeberg Borchgrevink . Borchgrevink named it after George, Prince of Wales, 1st Duke of York (1865–1936), who later became King George V.
