The dominion of Mirandola and later the Duchy of Mirandola with the capital Mirandola in the later Italian province of Modena were owned by the Pico family . The elevation to duchy takes place in 1619. A century later, the last duke sold the land to the Este .

The Duchy of Mirandola is sold to Rinaldo d'Este and from now on shares the fate of the Duchy of Modena .
