Hayat

The hay sowing is a process in which the clippings from a donor area are spread onto a prepared recipient area. The Heusaat enables site-adapted species to settle on an area. Important factors for the success of the Heusaat are the pretreatment of the recipient meadows, the time of cutting and the species composition of the donor meadows, as well as the type of incorporation of the cuttings in the recipient meadow.

The financial costs of a hay sowing are relatively low compared to sowing seeds . Nature conservation groups rate the Heusaat positively. In particular, the relatively large amount of seeds, the transferred insects and mycorrhizal fungi and the improved soil contact of the seeds through the processing operations can be used as an explanation for the increase in floristic and faunistic diversity achieved.
