Today is a wonderful day is a German wandering song , the words and phrases of which come from the composer Siegfried Köhler . It was probably written in 1942 and developed into a folk song in the GDR . Siegfried Köhler used the song in 1952 in his song cantata of the same name for choir and orchestra op.7.
