Heyawake
Heyawake ( Japanese へ や わ け 'divided rooms' ) is a puzzle published by the Japanese magazine Nikoli . It first appeared in Puzzle Communication Nikoli 39 (September 1992). A German name for the puzzle is Rotes Chaos .
regulate
Heyawake is played on a rectangular grid. The grid is divided into small rectangles ("rooms"), which are framed with bold lines. Some of these rectangles have a number.
The aim of the game is to determine which squares of the grid are black and which are white. The following rules apply:
- Black squares never border one another over an edge.
- All white squares are connected by edges.
- The numbers indicate how many black squares there are in a room.
- A room without a number can contain any number of black squares (as long as the other rules are met).
- A straight line of white squares can extend over two spaces at most.
