Michael Meyenburg

Michael Meyenburg , also Michel Meienburg , b. Leyer or Liser (* around 1491 in Marktsteinach ; †  November 13, 1555 in Nordhausen ), was a mayor of the free imperial city of Nordhausen who was close to the Reformation .

After studying law at the University of Erfurt in the years 1506–1509, Meyenburg became town clerk in Nordhausen and rose there to the position of mayor. He joined Martin Luther's ideas at an early stage and made friends with Justus Jonas and Philipp Melanchthon .

In his official work he also enjoyed the trust of the representatives of the surrounding imperial cities of Mühlhausen and Goslar , whom he represented at district, imperial and city meetings and in several trials before the imperial court . Having personally achieved financial wealth, he was able to make several loans, for example to the Counts of Stolberg .

Meyenburg was a partner in the Graflich- Mansfeldische Kupferhütte an der Steinach and had a share in this company that was calculated at 27,880 guilders on his death.

He married Anna Reinicke, the daughter of the Mansfeld smelter Hans Reinicke , and left behind the sons Caspar, Christoph, Hans and Michael. His daughter Ursula married Thomas Matthias . He died on November 13, 1555 and was buried in the Blasiikirche in Nordhausen.
