Heysen Trail
The Heysen Trail is a long distance hiking trail in the Australian state of South Australia . It leads from Cape Jervis on the Fleurieu Peninsula past Adelaide , through the Barossa Valley, known for its wine-growing, to the Flinders Range . It ends north of the national park in the Parachilna Gorge . With a length of 1200 kilometers, it is the longest long-distance hiking trail in Australia.
The trail is named after the native German Sir Hans Heysen (1877-1968), a well-known Australian painter, whose house can be found on the trail near Hahndorf near Adelaide .
The path is generally accessible from April to October; the path is closed in the other months. The best times to hike are in autumn (May and June) and spring (September and October).
