Hibernomas are congenital tumors of the brown adipose tissue of the subcutaneous tissue , e.g. B. on the buttocks, back or neck, resembling the hibernation gland of hibernators . They consist of large vacuolar , glycogen - and phospholipid -rich cells. Brown fat is occasionally extensive in the back of the young infant to find the kidneys and around the aorta . Hibernomas are rare, benign tumors with a tendency to grow. The hibernoma is often asymptomatic.
therapy
Surgical removal of a hibernoma is recommended, although no malignant changes have been observed. No recurrence has been described after complete removal . Hibernomas are an important differential diagnosis in PET diagnostics , as they usually show a signal behavior similar to that of malignant tumors .
