Hierotheos (Hungary)
Hierotheos (Hungarian Hierotheosz ) was an Orthodox monk and mission bishop in Hungary around 952.
Hierotheos was mentioned by the Byzantine chroniclers Johannes Skylitzes and Johannes Zonaras . He was a monk and was probably ordained bishop of Hungary (Turkia) in 952 by Patriarch Theophylactus of Constantinople . Then he accompanied the baptized leader Gyla to Hungary and converted many people to Christianity.
In 2000, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople appointed Hierotheos together with King Stephen I as saints of the Orthodox Church of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. His feast day is August 20th. There is an Orthodox Chapel of St. Stephen and Jerome in Budapest .
