High-speed warehouses (also known as SAT mobile warehouses) are a further development of the classic channel warehouse, in which pallets are stored one behind the other on several levels. In this case, load handling devices are one- or two-part canal vehicles, also called satellite vehicles. In the high-speed warehouse, the storage and retrieval of the pallets is not carried out by storage and retrieval machines (SRM) , but by several stationary vertical conveyors and a transfer trolley, the so-called SAT mobile, on the respective levels. The SAT-Mobile carry a canal vehicle (single or split), with which the pallets are stored and retrieved on the respective level.

The satellite vehicle is driven by a satellite mobile in front of the respective channel. There it moves into a rail profile that also carries the loading units. Removal is carried out by driving under and lifting the loading unit. The height of these automatic storage systems is ideally up to 18 meters. The warehouse is equipped with up to six levels. The transfer or moving carriages can also change levels if necessary, so that not every level is permanently occupied. One advantage is that the systems can be easily expanded, and transfer trolleys can be retrofitted. So you can start with low performance and low investment, and then expand with increased requirements.

Areas of application

The high-speed warehouse is particularly suitable for high storage and retrieval capacities with a small number of items. The combination of several SAT mobiles and a few vertical conveyors enables outputs of up to 800 to 1,200 storage and retrieval per hour (double cycles) with a total volume of approx. 80,000 pallet spaces in the warehouse. Storage and retrieval stations can be arranged at different positions and levels in the warehouse. They are often used in cold stores and deep-freeze warehouses, where the space to be cooled should be as small as possible or should have the highest possible volume utilization. Compared to flow racks, in which the loading units stand on inclined roller strips, and compared to roller pallet systems, they have the advantage that there are no moving parts on the rack.

This storage variant was developed by SIVAplan with the aim of keeping the mass of the fast moving elements as low as possible. In contrast to the classic stacker crane, the moving mass is reduced to less than 10% of a stacker crane, which has a positive effect on energy consumption and wear.
