High Barnet (London Underground)
High Barnet is an above-ground London Underground station in the London Borough of Barnet . It is in the Travelcard tariff zone 5 on Barnet Hill. In 2013, 2.80 million passengers used this station served by the Northern Line . High Barnet is the northernmost station on the Northern Line, 10 miles from Charing Cross .
The plans for the station go back to the Edgware, Highgate and London Railway (EH&LR), which was taken over by the Great Northern Railway (GNR) in 1867 . The GNR opened the railway line between Finchley Central and High Barnet on April 1, 1872 . With the Railways Act 1921 , all railway companies in the country were combined to form four large companies, with the GNR merging into the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) in 1923 . As part of the Northern Heights project, the railway line to High Barnet was integrated into the underground network. U-Bahn operations began on April 14, 1940. Both the U-Bahn and the railway ran on the route for a short period of time, with the last LNER train running in March 1941.
