Hily is an online dating - app that machine learning and artificial intelligence used to prospective partners to find. Named after an acronym for “Hey, I Like You” (German: “Hey, I like you”), the app is designed to suggest potential hits based on the analysis of user backgrounds, interests and app activity. The app's registration options include male, female, and non-binary .

Hily was originally released in August 2017. According to TechCrunch , the app had 35,000 users during its non-public beta phase in October 2017. Hily later gained additional users through a partnership with Snapchat . In August 2019, the app had proven 5 million users.

history

Hily was co-founded by Yan Pronin and Alex Pasykov. The concept of the app comes from Pronin's past in the areas of analytical information systems and statistical models . The application is designed to connect prospective partners based on similar interests rather than geographic location and physical attraction. On August 14, 2017, the app was released in the United States. It was also released in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France in March 2019.

The app reportedly had 5 million users in August 2019 and was among the top three dating apps in U.S. consumer spending for the second quarter of 2019.

Hily makes use of machine learning and statistical algorithms and analyzes data such as depth of dialogue, choice of words and shared likes to create profiles with a high probability of a match. In August 2018, FT Magazine's Aime Williams commented that Hily was "going one step further" than competing geosocial network apps by observing the verbal exchange of its users .

The user platform requires account verification by taking a photo live, uploading a photo from an official ID, or integrating social media. In September 2017, Josiah Motley, the senior editor for KnowTechie, referred to Hily's verification process through the statement: "While no system is perfect, it is a promising step in the right direction."

Business model

Hily uses a freemium business model. The app is free to download and use, while additional features are available with a paid subscription.
