Ladder to Heaven (Schrems)
The Himmelsleiter is a viewing platform in the Hochmoor Nature Park in Schrems , Lower Austria.
The wood and steel construction consists of 58 spruce trunks arranged in pairs, each 19.4 m long. Between these trunks, the 108-step steel staircase with a few mezzanine floors leads up to the 33 m long platform at a height of approx. 18.4 m. Steel tie rods and wooden pressure bars between the trunks as well as a steel substructure give the sky ladder stability.
The sky ladder was designed by the Viennese architect Manfred Rapf and executed by the Horner company Graf-Holztechnik. The observation tower, completed in 2002, was awarded the Lower Austrian Timber Construction Prize. The Himmelsleiter is freely accessible from April to October.
