Suspension without replacement (water polo)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A minute suspension without replacement is the toughest punishment for a player in water polo . It is stipulated in § 338 of the water polo-specific part of the DSV competition regulations .

Suspension without replacement - error

On suspension without replacement it can be seen if a player

  1. Beats, kicks or has committed other brutal acts on an opposing player or referee;
  2. Performs acts against an opposing player or referee that reveal a brutal act against that person. In this case, the referee must assume that this same player would have carried out the act and thereby injured this person.

Suspension without replacement

  1. The brutal player must immediately leave the playing field through his own re-entry room.
  2. The team whose player was injured has the opportunity to take a 3-minute break. In order to take this opportunity, the coach or team companion of this team must notify the referee. He then has to interrupt the game.
  3. The brutal player is suspended for the next two official games.
  4. The brutal player's team now continues to play four minutes with one player less. Thereafter, a player from the bench can re-enter through the re-entry room.
  5. If the brutal act is carried out by a player who is on the bench or who is on the way to change sides during the half-time break, this rule must be postponed without a replacement. The captain or the coach or team leader must then put a player from his own team who is currently in the water on the bench. However, this removed player has no penalty. A player may re-enter after four minutes.
