Menhir "Eselstratt" in the Trittenheim area

The Hinkelstein (popularly also called "Eselstratt") is the oldest evidence of settlement in the Trittenheim area . It is an approximately 3500 year old menhir , erected by the megalithic culture that lived in the region of today's Trittenheim .

The menhir stands on the boundary of the municipalities of Trittenheim , Köwerich and Klüsserath directly on the old pilgrimage route to Klausen . The heavy stone was erected again in the course of land consolidation 1971–1973 by the local community of Trittenheim.

Appearance and symbolism

Clear traces of processing can still be seen on the menhir , e.g. B. a circular depression (navel) and two wide grooves (arms). The menhir thus resembles a broad figure with a small head, and indicates a fertility cult ( Mother Goddess as protector of the earth, takes care of good growth and prosperity).
