Hitchin and Harpenden is a constituency for the British House of Commons in the ceremonial county of Hertfordshire . The constituency was created in 1997 and covers much of Hitchin , Harpenden and Wheathampstead . He sends a representative to parliament.

history

The constituency has always been represented by members of the Conservative Party since its creation . In the 1997 general election , Peter Lilley won the House of Commons seat. After he left parliament in 2017, Bim Afolami was elected as his successor in the 2017 general election.

In April 2013, the constituency had an unemployment rate of just 1.7%. This value was significantly lower than the national average of 3.8%.
