The Hitotsubashi Group ( Japanese 一 ツ 橋 グ ル ー プ , Hitotsubashi Gurūpu) is a family-run publishing group ( Keiretsu ) headquartered in Tokyo . The name of the group is derived from the location of the headquarters of the two main members Shogakukan and Shueisha . These are located in Hitotsubashi in the Chiyoda Special District . The group companies are predominantly run by the Ōga family; their influence in companies is still great today.

Shogakukan mainly focused on publishing educational magazines and similar publications. Shueisha decided to start a company to produce entertainment magazines. Shogakukan then also got into the entertainment business and competed with Shueisha. Eventually the two competing publishers merged to form the Hitotsubashi Group to help each other and grow together. The main buildings of Shogakukan and Shueisha are right next to each other.
