The Hjort Fracture Zone (English for Hjort fracture zone ) is a submarine transform fault in the Southern Ocean . It runs north of the Balleny Islands .

The naming of this formation has been confirmed by the US Advisory Committee for Undersea Features (ACUF) since December 1971 . It is named after the Norwegian zoologist and oceanographer Johan Hjort (1869–1948).
