Hoburgsgubben , a Rauk in Hoburgen

Hoburgen is a cliff area in the southernmost part of the Swedish island of Gotland , which consists of steep cliffs of reef limestone . The reef limestone belongs to the Sund Reformation , while the sandstone , which is mainly found in the south of the island and on which the reef limestone rests, belongs to the Burgsvik formation . These two petrological units are among the very youngest soil materials on Gotland and they have settled in Ludlow , part of the Silurian .

Hoburgen is a resting place for migratory birds. At the place where a lighthouse has been standing since 1846 is now the 22 meter high Hoburgs Fyr .

At Hoburgen there are grottos and raukar , which were formed and developed both by the Ancylus Sea and the Littorina Sea .

It belongs to the Sund Reformation, as the youngest mountain layer on Gotland is called, which comes to the surface in the south of the island.
