Hodžovo námestie (German literally "Hodža-Platz", in colloquial language Hodžko ) is a place in the Slovak capital Bratislava . It is known for its location right next to the Grassalkovich Palace , the seat of the President of Slovakia, so almost all foreign state visits pass the square. In front of the palace is the Fontána mieru (Peace Fountain ), a work by the architect Tibor Bártfay . Other noteworthy buildings around the square are the Hotel Crowne Plaza (formerly Hotel Forum), a post-modern hotel opened in 1989, the multi-purpose center Tatracentrum (2001) and the multi-purpose administrative building Astoria Palace (2008).

The square is connected to other streets in the old town via a renovated underpass, originally opened in 1970. Other streets starting from the square are the Staromestská towards the bridge of the Slovak National Uprising and Petržalka , Palisády towards the castle and the National Council , Štefánikova towards the Central Station and Lamač and Námestie 1. mája towards Rača .

The square is named after the Slovak writer Michal Miloslav Hodža (1811–1870). In the time of socialism it was called Mierové námestie (Peace Square), which is why it is still called Mierko in the vernacular of older Bratislava residents . At the time of the Danube Monarchy , the square was called Grassalkovich Square .

The square is an important hub of the Bratislava public transport network (omnibus and trolleybus routes).
