Courtyard in the mist

The Hof in der Neblau was a Graz noble farm that stood on Karlauerstrasse. Its history goes back to the 12th century, after 1721 a crockery factory was built in its place. Today there is a police headquarters there.

history

The Edelhof was probably originally a Meierhof of the Eppensteiner , but it was likely to have received a defensive character as early as the 12th century. Around 1103 the estate went from the Eppensteiners to the St. Lambrecht monastery and was probably used by servants of the monastery as an aristocratic residence, such as Wichmann von Tobel, named in 1172. In the 13th century the property was known as the Hof zu Obertobel , but in the 14th century it lost its importance as an aristocratic residence and was given to some citizens of Graz to purchase rights. From the 15th century the property was used again as a noble residence, but in 1506 it was sold as a farm in the Neblau to the Graz citizen M. Harrer. His son sold the farm to Vinzenz Senftenberg, who called him Senftenberghof . His widow gave the property to her second husband, Ulrich Vogl, as a free property.

In 1577 Ferdinand Georg Freiherr von Khevenhüller Ulrich Vogl bought the farm. In 1598 the property came to the princely valet Ciriak Schröckinger, who exchanged it with Georg Goldschmidtitsch in 1606 for his court at the Graben . In the same year it was acquired by Archduke Ferdinand in order to provide accommodation for his falconers. In 1721 the Falkenhof estate was named by Emperor Charles VI. sold to Franz Huber, who built a crockery factory on this site. Today there is a police headquarters at this point.
