Court ball dances

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hofball-Tänze is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 298). The work was performed for the first time on February 22, 1865 in the Knights' Hall of the Vienna Hofburg .

Remarks

The waltz was written and performed for a court ball scheduled for Mardi Gras in 1865. That also explains the naming. However, this is not the only musical work with this name. Well-known and less well-known Viennese musicians have already created works for court balls that also bore this title. These musicians included Johann Strauss (father) , Joseph Lanner and Phillipp Fahrbach. After the premiere, Strauss revised the work again and performed it again as a novelty on August 15, 1865 in Pavlovsk near St. Petersburg (Russia) and on November 12 of the same year in the Volksgarten in Vienna.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 9 minutes and 15 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
