Hans Heinrich von Stöcken (born May 10, 1666 in Copenhagen , † November 2, 1709 in The Hague ) was a Danish diplomat .

family

Stöcken came from a Rendsburg councilor family. His grandfather Hinrich von Stökken († 1643) was the customs administrator there. His parents were Heinrich von Stöcken (1631–1681) and Anna Catharina von Felden. As rent master and general war commissioner, the father controlled the entire Danish financial system and was raised to the nobility in 1679. The father's brothers were the lawyer Gerhard von Stökken (1629–1681), professor in Strasbourg and the pastor Christian von Stökken (1633–1684) general superintendent in the Duchy of Schleswig and poet of the Baroque era.

Stöckens siblings were Cai Burchard (1661-1710), Landdrost and Danish envoy; Abigael Marie (around 1662–1714), married to Oberrentmeister Peter von Brandt ; Christopher Ernst (1664-1711); Danish admiral; Anna Margrethe (1668–1732) married to Landdrost Conrad Bierman von Ehrenschild and Gerhard Christian (1671–1728), most recently Danish lieutenant general.

Stöcken was married to Marie von Boefeke, who, like him, was related by marriage to the Biermann von Ehrenschild family. His wife survived him by 23 years. The son Christian von Stöcken (1694–1762) became a lawyer, appointed chamberlain in 1746 and privy councilor in 1760 .

career

Like his father and brothers, Stöcken entered the Danish civil service. Like his older brother Cai Burchard, he became an envoy. In 1688, Stöcken was sent to the Elector in Cologne and to the Bishop of Münster on a diplomatic mission . After several stays abroad he was employed in the foreign department in 1691 and in the following year partly at the " German Chancellery " ( Danish Tyske Kancelli ), partly abroad. In 1698 Stöcken was appointed envoy extraordinary to England and in 1700 envoy to the States General , where he remained until his death. In addition, in 1699 he was appointed to the budget council.

Hans Heinrich von Stöcken died on November 2, 1709 at the age of 43. Like his father, he was buried in the Trinity Church in Copenhagen.

Stocken's successor as a Danish resident in The Hague was his cousin Hans Heinrich von Stökken (* 1684).
